Site Rearrangement and Training Log Updated

As you can see from the links across the top of the front page, I've rearranged things slightly. The "Tutorials" section now includes "Tutorials and Articles" to reflect its content and the direction I want to take it. "Training" has changed to the more descriptive "Training Log", and biggest change is the removal of the "Comments" section. I actually just moved it to the Archives page if someone is still dying to make a comment, but I wanted it off the main page as things were getting crowded.

Now that we've gotten that business out of the way, I'm also reporting a long overdue update to the training log. Training has been going very well lately and I've rambled off on how I've restructured things, the progress I've seen, and the direction I'm hoping to take things.

Clapping Handstand Pushup - revised

I revised the Clapping HSPU tutorial by adding this picture where you can see my feet. No wires, no cables. Again, not the prettiest skill, but it's there. I'm sure some will still question the authenticity of the skill, but as Johnny Fox says, there will always be septics . . . I mean skeptics.

Interview with Jack Arnow

Jack Arnow

I had the fantastic opportunity to meet, train, and talk with Jack Arnow this past January. If you don't know, Jack is the co-author of the one arm chinning guide posted up at Dragondoor. He's been training for decades and shares his wisdom in this interview.

And a huge thanks goes to Jesse and Mark of Primal Fitness for hosting the training session. I've said it before - best chin-up bar in Washington DC!

(l to r) Me, Jesse, Jack, Mark

And finally, here's a video of various training sessions over the past several weeks at Primal Fitness. You can see Jack in several clips, and a shadowy figure doing a one arm chin-up on a rope...

Beast Skills around the World!

I recently received an email from one Mike Tornincasa who has been motorcycling around South America with his wife since August of last year! Read all about their adventures at http://pedroandmaria.blogspot.com/. (Pedro and Maria are code names for Mike and his wife Amie, I think they may actually be international spies...)

He enjoys the page because you can work on these skills damn near anywhere! Anyways, here's a picture of Mike doing a two arm elbow lever in the sand dunes of Peru!

Mike and his fairer half are off to New Zealand and Australia next, then it seems they're heading across most of Europe! So if you see some scraggly-looking motorcyclist doing a handstand or elbow lever, it could be Mike!

And while we're on the topic of elbow levers, I've changed up the "supplemental exercises" portion for this skill. I've been reading through Stuart McGill's "Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance", and while it's an excellent, excellent reference that I whole-heartedly recommend, it warns of the back stress imposed by many various exercises. In the end it's important to understand the risks and rewards of each exercise and make your own decisions.
